This is our first post! Here we will post updates on an ongoing graphics project aiming at creating real time global illumination using Image Space Photon Mapping.
Image Space Photon Mapping (ISPM)
In Computer Graphics, Global Illumination a process which simulates not only direct but also indirect lightning effects – effects yielded from the fact the light bounces and is scattered several times before it reaches your eye. Many important lightning phenomena, like like colour bleeding or caustics, is only captured when global illumination is taken into account.
Global Illumination produces very desirable results, but at a high computational cost. It has been thoroughly used in off-line rendering but creating real time Global Illumination is still a fresh subject!
Enter ISPM, one of the newer algorithms that tries to compute proper global illumination in real time! In this project we will implement ISPM and also try to improve upon it using another well known technique called Irradiance Caching!
